Smithing a 70 grip safety to an 80 safety

Theoretically, it should work.
But my FLG tried that and it did not.
When he first put the beavertail and other mods on my 1991A1, he shimmed out the S80 lawyer levers and left out the firing pin obstruction.
Then IDPA got to actually checking for that, so I asked him to reactivate the S80.

He put the cast beavertail in the milling machine and cut the actuating arm down to pass the levers. It simply crumbled away. He ended by slotting the beavertail and soldering in a steel bar - a piece of a takeoff trigger stirrup - and filing it to engage. A lot of extra work, but he would rather hammer a problem like that than to simply order a S80 part.

Is there some reason you don't want to just buy a S80 beavertail?
Got a 70 on hand? The one you want not made to fit S80?

Let's block ads! (Why?)
