Upping my caliber when going to the zoo

mardi 31 mai 2016

Just thinking about what I would have done if I witnessed that scene at the Cincinnati Zoo. As a parent with three kids ( 11, 8 and 6) I was absolutely horrified as I watched that video, my heart just sank. A parents worst nightmare ever is to have to bury one of your children, let alone see them die in front of your eyes. I do know that someone at that zoo had to make a decision just as we do as concealed carry holders to make a judgment in a very short amount of time.....was that childs LIFE in immediate danger. Someone said yes. Someone said shoot. I commend the zoo for that. Had something terrible happened to that child, the backlash would have been insurmountable for the zoo. You think it's bad now for the mother, imagine the other scenario.

Unfortunately a majestic animal had to pay the price. Don't get me wrong, I go to the zoo with my family because we love animals and for the most part I come out kinda mad because I hate seeing them locked, caged up. Even acres of free territory is really not enough for the big ones.

So I have always carried a gun when taking my family to the zoo. For some stupid reason I have had a fear that something could go wrong, possibly an animal escaping. I was never worried about humans at the zoo, just animals. Even stupider, ive carried my 9mm, like that's going to have an effect. I dusted off my S&W 4506 which is set up for .45 super. It's the biggest thing I have and it actually can be concealable given the right belt and right holster. The gun is big but thin and I have no problem concealing this pistol in a t-shirt and cargo shorts. Even that caliber is wishful thinking but I cant sling a .375H&H over my shoulder or conceal large framed revolver either.

So if you had a gun, what would you have done? Just curious. Seems like you see more and more footage of humans falling into pits or getting to close to cages, some make it some don't.
