AMT Automag III .30 Carbine issue

Hello,

I recently purchased a perfectly functioning Automag III. I somehow changed that :-)

I am now getting around to my first time cleaning this Automag III. After assembling per instructions it locked up around 1/8" out of battery and I am stuck, the slide will not move in either direction. The slide release lever will not come out, I can not depress the spring bushing enough to remove the bbl. bushing because the guide rod is now above the plane of the slide by that same amount.

Just wondering if any of you experienced a similar issue, and if so how you worked around it.
