My MIL works in Ajo. It's a lot better now than 4-5 years ago. When she got there there were only 12 Border Patrol, now there's 550 in the Ajo district alone.

Unless one is way out in the bush or break down or something at night it is unlikely you will encounter anything that wouldn't happen anywhere. It's still spooky driving down to the border station, below Organ Pipe especially around twilight. The brush is like 30 feet high, and some of the organ pipe cactus are 30-35 feet high. You could hide an army in some of the areas.

And the pigs - OMG! They have wild hogs as big as in Texas. They knocked down a 4 ft chain link fence to get to my MIL's garden. (It wasn't a very good fence. LOL) Last trip a pretty big one, ran right through the back patio at dinner. A wonder it didn't run into the house. If we'd been a bit quicker we could have herded it right into the BBQ.

Oh - I just found this - LOL

Wild Pigs "Loot" Ajo Dollar General Store! That's like 1/2 mile away. LOL
