ADVICE only - CONSIDERING selling two Rock River 1911s

samedi 28 mai 2016

Hi all.

I am seeking advice only with this post.

Mods: I am NOT trying to sell guns on this forum nor am I shilling for guns that are currently up for sale on any other forum, specifically on the gun sales website that starts with the letter "G". I just want advice from the group about potentially listing something on another location. I sincerely hope this is ok, and if not, just slap me silly and call me Shirley.

OK, enough of that.

I own two Rock River Arms 1911s, one a 5" Elite Carry and the other a 4 1/4" Carry. Owned them since new. The Commander has a relatively new ramped Schuemann barrel and the 5" has a Barsto ramped barrel fitted at the Barsto factory.

The Commander has been refinished in the past and has some holster wear. It still looks pretty good (wear wise) and it's mechanically flawless. However, the 5" has close to 10000 rounds through it (only 500 or so on the new barrel) and it has the holster wear to go along with that. It has been meticulously maintained and is mechanically flawless as well. Both guns run like Swiss watches.

Some find holster wear sexy. I'm one of 'em. I'm of the school that I'm bound and determined to wear the finish clean off my guns from shooting them. But others flip out over wear marks. When I first started shooting, I was that way.

In my opinion there's just something about the patina of a well worn, mechanically perfect gun. Yet, they have the wear marks to go along with the shooting schools and IDPA fun times I've had through the years.

So my question for everyone, the advice I'm seeking is this: IF - IF - I decide to post these guns on <<another forum>> for sale <<and not try to sell these guns on this forum!!>>, should I spend the money and have the 5" Cerakoted/refinished, or should I sell as is? Yes, I have a specific price in mind, and no, I would not be giving these guns away. RRA made some high quality stuff back then and although the price I'm thinking of would be less than what the new ones are going for, the price I have in mind would be commensurate with that quality.

I have lots of pix of both guns and would post those with the listing, so a prospective buyer would absolutely know what he/she was getting.

So I'm asking for your advice: If I decide to sell these pistols, should I spend the time and effort to refinish, well at least the 5", or try to sell them as is?

My thanks for your input in advance.

Mike
