GI feed lips and hollow points

Don't ask why, just curious - always learning
I've heard how well GI feed lips feed ball ammo, not so much with hollow points. What is the prohibiting factor with hollow points, OAL or the lack of a round nose profile? I realize the original mags with GI feed lips were engineered around ball ammo with 1.26" OAL, and most (if not all) factory hollow point ammo is shorter. I also understand the dynamics of how GI feed lips control a round all the way up into the extractor, and present the round at a less acute angle into the chamber, in theory anyhow.

I reload Hornady XTP 230 gr hollow points, so could duplicate the OAL of ball easily enough. Would the bullet profile still trip me up? Just curious if anyone has tried, before I invest in mags just to experiment
