After 2 years of carrying a Kershaw Cryo I decided that it was time to update my EDC blade. Now after recently becoming a convert to the 1911 lifestyle I was thinking of getting a knife with more of a traditional style of carry. You know, the kind you deploy with a finger nail. So I looked at different Case knives that I thought would match well with my Ruger SR1911. Then I thought, why did you choose a 1911 for EDC? You chose it because it was practical. It shoots better than you do and it is a proven system. With that in mind I was set on getting an old school knife design that my grandfather carried. But before I made a $100 purchase I carried a cheap toothpick Buck Knife for a few weeks. What I discovered was I didn't like the 2 handed operation of opening and closing. Did I really want to buy a $100 version of this knife? No, I did not. Instead I settled on a modern day classic. The Benchmade Mini Griptillian. It opens and closes easily with one hand. It's basic and simple. It's not exactly cheap at the $90 I paid for it, but I believe it is superior to the case knives I looked at. It's razor sharp and holds a good sharp edge. It actually matches my SR1911 well. My gun has updated Magpul MOE grips that match the Mini-G well. This knife will last me for the foreseeable future. I couldn't be happier.
