Has anyone had a 1911 Built by a gunsmith?

Like every "which is better" question, it all depends on your wants, needs, and expectations. Have you been around 1911's enough to know what you want and are willing to pay a premium for?

There is no question in my mind, that a full custom 1911, built by a skilled pistolsmith, is a much better firearm than a production pistol. But, the production gun may be "good enough" for your requirements.

My first custom 1911, from a "name" pistolsmith, that I commissioned as a retirement gift to myself 16 years ago, is approaching 100K rounds fired and is as functional, accurate, and good-looking as the day I took posession. And, no broken parts, or returning to the factory for repair. And, it will still hold 1" 5-shot groups @ 25 yards from a sandbag.

I doubt if a production 1911 can match any of that.

Except for cost and wait time, why wouldn't you want a custom pistol?
