Why is my slide stuck in the closed position?

lundi 25 avril 2016

A little background info- I'm so new to the 1911 it hurts! But realizing I had to start somewhere, I bought a cheap Rock Island and tore it down to see how she ticks. In doing so, I polished up the obvious (feed ramp etc.). I'm not a good shot, but noticed my RI was throwing them all over the place as compared to me using my buddy's Colt Govt. So wanting to take my 'Impala' and make it run with the 'Corvettes', I bought a used Kimber barrel and bushing on a whim and dropped them in. Pulling back on the slide was next to impossible. (?)

When letting the slide spring forward, it seizes itself when it is all the way forward, so much so I can't pull the slide back again. I have to physically hit the end of the barrel backwards with my free hand to break the hold, only then can I pull the slide back. (I let it go forward again, and she seizes up again.)
I'm guessing
A) somewhere the Kimber bushing is binding on the RI guide rod- would that make sense? Or
B)the bushing is wedging itself so tight between barrel and guide rod that I have to knock it back in order to free it up. Or finally,
C) could the bushing be pushing the barrel up into the slide so as to 'wedge' the barrel against the slide?

Thoughts? Advice? (My wife probably won't agree to me dumping the Rock Island and buying a Gold Cup!)

Let's block ads! (Why?)
