Noob needs help!

Man, am I thrilled I found this site! It is like paradise for 1911 junkies.

I started building ARs a few years back and had a lot of fun learning how to build the 80%'ers. Can't continue to do that, however, or I will be on the evening news as.some kind of survivalist whacko found with an arsenal. So, thought I was ready to try a 1911. Much more involved, which means much more fun and learning!

I started with Tactical Machining Recon frame. Milled the rails, drilled the holes, cut the barrel seat. Pretty standard stuff. Still having fun.

Fitting an Ed Brown drop in barrel was scary, but filing, testing, filing, testing, etc., finally got a good fit. The match barrel bushing was a pain and is still awful tight, but there is no slop in the barrel. Hooray! I am doing good. BTW, most important parts are Ed Brown.

Got the trigger fitted and polished, although it needs more work to be mirror bright. Don't know if it will ever be smooth as I want, but that's okay. Man, this is a ball!

BAM! Trouble hit. The disconnect or does not want to pop up through the port to engage the frame. It sticks about a quarter of the way in. I know I have to file the sear narrower, as well as the hammer, both are a little to thick to fit. I expected that, but not this disconnector problem. Maybe a little more fun than I want.

Checking the specs, the disconnector was .0152 in. And the hole/port let a 5/32 drill through. I couldn't get my calipers into the hole inside the frame.

Is it normal to have to fit a disconnector? Like I said, I expect it with the sear and hammer, but I am afraid to start sanding the disconnector so it will slide up through the hole. Am I afraid for no good reason? I don't want to have to buy another one. Already had to do that with the plunger tube. Now, that was not fun.

Thanks for taking the time to read and any help you can give.

In the immortal words of Commander Cody, "You can't ever have too much fun."
