New Guy From Indiana

I just wanted to stop in and say hello. I just recently picked up my first 1911, a Ruger SR1911 Gov. model. I could not be happier with the gun. So far I've gotten about 300 rounds of assorted FMJ and 40 rounds of Hornday Critical Defense through her. The only hiccups were with 2 cheap Armscor FMJ. They occurred once in each of the factory mags the first time through. Both rounds failed to go into battery. It should be noted that after the 2nd failure I broke down the pistol for cleaning and lubing, something I didn't do prior to the first shoot. I can't pinpoint what caused the failures, but I believe that I was likely limp-wristing and that the slide was under lubed as the rails appeared to be dry with no gunky residue buildup after field stripping. Every round after that has cycled and shot flawlessly. I shoot this gun as accurately as any sidearm I've owned in the past, less a Smith and Wesson MP9 full size with an Apex trigger sear that broke at slightly under 4 pounds. I know that with more practice this will quickly become the best shooting semi-auto that I've ever had the pleasure of owning. I don't plan on making many upgrades to this pistol, with the exception grips. I have already swapped the factories with a set of Magpul MOE grips. I have medium-ish hands and they are just a natural fit for me with the slim profile they provide. I did black out the rear sight, as in the past I've put a 10-8 rear sight on my pistols and like the single white dot. At some point I will likely put a 10-8 rear sight on my SR1911. Lastly I adjusted the trigger for over travel. It made a huge difference in follow up shots and accuracy. After finishing the "break-in" I started carrying the gun as my EDC to replace a Smith and Wesson Shield 9mm. I carry her in a Galco Summer Comfort holster, that is until I get a Milt Sparks rig that seems to be the holster of choice for the majority of users on here. When at home I carry in a Yaqui Slide holster from Andy at shottist.com which is of wonderful quality. Check them out at http://ift.tt/1Sr1sYk. I would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have in regards to the 1911 platform or the SR1911 specifically. I'll apologize in advance if some of my 1911 lingo is inaccurate either now or in the future as I become more acquainted with this awesome platform.

Thanks,

Tyler
