Colt slim grip bushing removal

dimanche 24 avril 2016

I want to remove the stock slim grip bushings on a new Colt Lightweight Commander and install taller, full size bushings. I have installed a Hogue wrap-around using the slim bushings as originally installed and as Hogue recommends according to Midway. I had to buy standard grip screws (.28) as the Colt slim screws (.18) do not have suffiicient thread length. I believe taller, standard bushings are a better fit.

I'm concerned with an aluminum frame vs Colt staked bushings and the outcome. If the staking is such that it increases the pitch diameter, wouldn't the internal aluminum thread be destroyed upon removal?

I have read that Colt has a unique way of "staking" the bushing to the aluminum frame.

Your help/input is greatly appreciated, Thanks.
