Premier Grade...
With that in mind, Gold Coast Shipping was enlisted to take some of the load off of me and we are very happy that they are now our Exclusive distributor and, exclusive to us.
In looking over the Elite Classic, it was noted that the most asked for upgrades were an Ambi Safety, Bevel the bottom of the slide, and Flat topping the slide, so we incorporated those changes into the base gun.
Gold Coast will be handling all of our "production" guns and the remaining
P35's.
Signature guns will be handled in house as always, and all of the Customer work.
Thanks for all the support here.... we get to keep eatin' and doing what we love!

I think this is a big issue, personally. I stripped the pistol, polished the various surfaces of the cast disconnector and the rear of the trigger bow. After reassembly, whew, I can rack the slide with trigger back.
So now I have to find a new disconnector. Since the disconnector hole seems kinda big, I think I'll take the EGW ball-head disconnector out of my Colt and see how it fits the Turnbull. I think I'll also just for peace of mind toss the sear spring and replace it too.
This pistol sure looks great from the outside but I'm beginning to wonder whether the insides are up to snuff.

Another 70 series repro
Bought an 01991 for the stable a few weeks ago and was really pleased at the fit and finish. Well I bought a 70 series NIB for a great price and it arrived today. Have to get some snaps but it's beyond stellar. Completely beside myself at how stunning it is. Thanks Colt. She's a keeper.
Enforcer-T-Recon details question.
My build sheet describes my Enforcer as a enforcer-t-recon. I understand my base pistol is a enforcer, but can't seem to figure out what the "T" stands for and what is different about a recon frame from a base enfocer. Could someone here enlighten me please?
Micarta thong hole tubing
I started a new project this weekend, and am looking for natural or green micarta thong hole tubing with an outside diameter of 1/4 inch. Usa knife maker has been out of stock for a while now and I don't know who else sells it. I was wondering if anyone here could point me towards another source.

I don't believe it is collectable but someone might think so. The Mil-spec has several advantages and can be had new for substantially less with some careful shopping...IMO he's a couple of hundred high but there might be something about it.

I was about $400 shy of being able to afford the Dan Wesson Silverback I had been saving-up for when my FFL pulled this STI Lawman out from beneath the counter. Mind you, this guy had never steered me wrong previously so I trusted him. I had read a lot about STI's. A close friend of mine was a big fan. Like an idiot, I bought it.
The first time I shot it, it was pouring rain on/off all day but, I managed to get a box of 50 MagTech 230gr FMJ's downrange between the storms.
The pistol shot OK - no malfunctions. Felt good. I couldn't quite understand why everything was grouping to the left but, I figured a simple rear sight adjustment would take care of it.
I waited a few days for the weather to clear and shot the following target from the same distance after adjusting the TAS rear sight by 9 clockwise clicks. This time I used GECO 230gr FMJ (My Sig TTT's favorite factory load).
I couldn't, for the life of me, figure-out why the pistol was still shooting left of POA after the first mag. I loaded another mag and shot again. Same result - left of POA. I adjusted 4 more clockwise clicks on the rear sight. Same result: left POI. The pistol seemed to be grouping decently but, I just couldn't seem to get them in the center.
Honestly, the trigger had a lot of creep and was heavy for a 1911 - 6 lbs. I thought that might have something to do with it?
That's about the time I looked down and noticed the gouge/scratch on the righthand side of the slide, where it meets the frame.
That's when I stopped shooting it. I didn't want to damage the slide any further by continuing to shoot it.
Now, at this point, a lot of people would get pissed-off and post a rant about how STI is the worst gun ever made, blah, blah, blah...but, I'm not going to do that. No, all I'm going to say is fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me. It's being shipped back to the factory for repairs and if/when I get it back, it'll get traded-in on a new DW Silverback. Lesson learned.
I contacted Bud's customer service... No help. They will not open a box to check.
I have also messaged several vendors on Gunbroker and not a single reply. Most ads say "May not match picture... Stock Picture..."
I am looking for a 10 round, commander with a fiber optic front sight. Armscor/ Rock Island #51964 (M1911-A1 TCM MS Tac 4.3")
You would think one of these companies would like to sell a gun??? I am ready to purchase.
Anyone got any ideas?
Anyways, great pistol!

Load Question
I recently purchased some 250 gr. 45acp. Missouri lead bullets for use in a 45acp. They will not provide any load info. I've been unable to find much load data for this weight bullet. I'm specifically looking for a recipe using Power Pistol, but will take any info into consideration. Anyone have a recipe using Power Pistol with the 250 gr lead bullets for 45acp.? All help appreciated.

Insert the extractor. Insert firing pin with spring and use an appropriate sized rod or punch to push the firing pin into ts tunnel as far as it will go. It will stick out the breech face about 1/4". at which point you can use a hemostat with padded jaws (small neoprene tubing, or tape) to grab the firing pin right where it comes out of the breech face. Do so and lock the hemostat.
Now, you can align the extractor notch and easily insert the firing pin stop all the way. Release the hemostat and the firing pin pops into place. Done.

Ive owned a few other 1911s over the years, but these have been the "keepers".
In this thread, I'm asking shooters to take 25 rounds & shoot the "Bill Wilson 5x5 drill" and post their scores.
I want to see who the "shooters" are and who just spends time polishing their safe queens.
Without duplicating too much - the 5x5 challenge consists of 5x five-shot strings from the holster and on the clock.
Procedure
String 1: Draw and fire 5 shots freestyle (two hands)
String 2: Draw and fire 5 shots strong hand only
String 3: Draw and fire 5 shots freestyle (two hands), reload from slidelock and fire 5 more shots freestyle
String 4: Draw and fire 4 shots to the body and 1 shot to the head freestyle
Have a look at the original thread in the general forum and join the fun.
Let's see who the fast / accurate shooters are around here.

Clearly there's more details to be learned, but I think this points out something that needs to be remembered in a self-defense situation. The actions are self-defense until the point where the attacker stops the aggression. Any further actions can be deemed you initiating aggression against the attacker. It's the "shoot to stop" instead of the "shoot to kill" difference.
No, and that's what has also got me thinking even after I started this thread why bother. Meaning if it's an animal issue forget about it. Maybe watching too many movies, like I said, Ive always carried going to my local zoo but never with the notion I was carrying a gun to protect me and my family against humans
Im trying to get a pic of a still image I saw a few years ago on MSNBC where you see a tiger in a pen somewhere in Asia. Im not sure what the situation was but in the foreground you see local police officer draw and point his 1911 at the tiger about 60 yards away. I was wondering A) Whats he going to do with that and B) Dam, they use 1911's as police sidearms!

Full guide rod spring replacement
I have the sa1911 loaded,2010.ive shot about 5000 rounds thru it and am starting to get some malfunctions. I swapped to the full guide rod and spring when it was new and now want to replace the same wieght spring.what is the factory wieght rating,I just don't remember?

Unfortunately a majestic animal had to pay the price. Don't get me wrong, I go to the zoo with my family because we love animals and for the most part I come out kinda mad because I hate seeing them locked, caged up. Even acres of free territory is really not enough for the big ones.
So I have always carried a gun when taking my family to the zoo. For some stupid reason I have had a fear that something could go wrong, possibly an animal escaping. I was never worried about humans at the zoo, just animals. Even stupider, ive carried my 9mm, like that's going to have an effect. I dusted off my S&W 4506 which is set up for .45 super. It's the biggest thing I have and it actually can be concealable given the right belt and right holster. The gun is big but thin and I have no problem concealing this pistol in a t-shirt and cargo shorts. Even that caliber is wishful thinking but I cant sling a .375H&H over my shoulder or conceal large framed revolver either.
So if you had a gun, what would you have done? Just curious. Seems like you see more and more footage of humans falling into pits or getting to close to cages, some make it some don't.

I've got an EGW HD raised magazine catch in my parts box. I decided to compare it to the factory one and found that it is a fair bit longer. I can access it a little easier, but it is not an "extended" catch. Also, I'm not so sure the "raised" aspect will be needed, helpful or counterproductive to reliability.
I am, however, curious about this Ed Brown option.
http://ift.tt/1UaFBB7
How would I go about making measurements to determine that this Ed Brown product is extended more than the EGW? I don't have a spec sheet on the EGW that I can compare to Ed Browns .060 claim.
If it is has a little more length at the button than the EGW I am inclined to try it out. Not to mention that it has wonderful reviews by Springfield owners.
Or course, different grips is a viable option, but I'm really digging the feel of the wrap around thumb swell and I'd like to give them a fair chance to work.

Underwood 44 mag. 340 GR +P+ Ammo review
First off, when you get this box in your hand the weight is obvious. When comparing it to my other 44. mag ammo, it looks massive. Then you load it into the wheel gun, just to realize that it takes EVERY single millimeter of the chamber to hold it. My target was a tree stump(actually a great thing to sight in on.) I cocked the hammer, tightened my grip, then I let the big gun sing. All the neighbors asked me what in the hell was I shooting. With the biggest smile on my face I showed them. It was EXTREMELY accurate at 25 yards, and packs one heck of a punch. It does smoke a little bit and has PLENTY of recoil. But, and all in all, is now my round of choice to leave loaded in my house in case of an intruder and will be the gun I take this seasons first deer with. 340 grains moving @ 1500 FPS. Things that make a man DROOL.....

USGI 1911 pistols barrel link
When issued from factory or arsenal or depot, had the barrel link several size possibilities for adjustment or were they just used on commercial pistols to reduce gap ?
Thanks for answers

second build. commander 9mm
After my first build (a full size 1911 with rail and threaded barrel) i was sure that there will not be a second one, as parts are hard to get over here...
But somehow it happend that a friend notified me that a local gunsmith has an oversized commander frame and slide from caspian for a very nice price (320bucks for the set) so i couldn resist and bought it...
now I m gathering informations about the commander size 1911s (as i have no clue about that kind of 1911), before ordering parts from brownells and let them ship it overseas. I want to make sure i get all the parts right the first time as they only ship 100buck worth of parts at a time... and shipping is not the cheapest...
I found out that most parts are the same compared to the government.
extractor is 9mm/38 super for commander slides. also barrel is shorter (of course) barrel bushing is also different. Is it only shorter or has the lug also other dimensions (can i buy a full size bushing and just mill down in lenght?)
Is the barrel only shorter or are the lugs lower and upper also different? I have to have an austrian barrel maker make the barrel as importing one is a big hassle and includes lots of paperwork... He already made the full size barrel for me and it came out nicely.
guide rod and recoilspring are also shorter.
How is it with hammers and beavertail grip safety? Can i use a standard gripsafety with standard hammer?
Read something that alll the engagemant areas are the same but something is different in commander hammers right?
Sorry for my englisch if there are mistakes in it. Its not my native language..
As you guy helped me soo much with my first build i thought i look for help here again.
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards from Austria
Daniel
Ps: if there is interest i can keep up up to date with pics of the build....
Got back from vacation today to find two pairs I had ordered were waiting in the mail from Saturday.
Note that despite the fact that it says "rosewood" in the description, these are actually the new "walnut" double diamond grips that Colt is putting on the new Series 70 Gold Cups. I'll try to post pictures later in the week for comparison.
It actually seems that I need a lot more cant. Plus I like the gun to ride high to stay under my shirt.
Then I noticed that with a "Small-of-back" holster you get a TON of cant, plus the gun rides very high.
I have no intention however of wearing it at the small of my back, but instead would wear it at between three and four o'clock like a normal holster.
Has anyone tried this? How well did it work?
*Odd that "upholstery" has the word "holster" in it when they get along so poorly.
So, I spent time looking on line for this and can't find it. I guess it wouldn't be hard to make but I'll always buy rather than make if it's available. Is it something that died out?
Perhaps the better question is "How often do plunger tubes loosen up?", the tube has been described as a point of weakness in the 1911 design. It's easy enough to drill one or two extra precision holes, though I'm not sure how the inside countersink is done.
Measuring new slides and frames...
What measures (bad pun) do you take to ensure the new frame and slide that you will be using on a new 1911 build are within spec? And by "spec" I mean is there a set of dimensions that you want to see parts of the frame and slide within before you begin? What do you do if they are not within spec for you?
Thank you!
Andy

So here's the deal. I'm really tired of every cat in the neighborhood crapping in my bark. And I'm especially tired of stepping in it.
I'm not interested in hurting the cats....well maybe a little bit, but not seriously. More like send a message to stop crapping in my bark. I swear it's like the community litter box. I have an old school Red Ryder bb gun, but I'm pretty sure a copper BB would probably pierce the skin, so I don't really want to shoot them with that.
But what about airsoft? Are airsoft bb the same size? Or would I have to buy a designated airsoft gun? Also, I'm fairly certain airsoft won't hurt the cats seriously. But hopefully enough to let them know how it's gonna be. Any airsoft guys around here that can help me out on this?

RO champion commander sights
Hi everyone. Recently got a champion commander size in 45acp. Today I got around to shooting a paper target to see exactly where it holds and how well I can handle it.
At 20 yards the gun shoots right. I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing or just the sights may be off. I have tried different ammo, and I have tried shooting free hand and on a rest. All shoot right. I'm a left handed shooter btw. Can the rear sight be moved over a bit without to much trouble? Thanks
Club matches hereabouts are typically 6 stages 100 rounds.

Are they the same size case?My question is for old timers who refuse to give up the Iron on your set ups.

Model 01091 at the 500 round mark
Just a report on my new model 01091,she is rite at the 500 round Mark after my range trip yesterday.there was only one failure to go into battery using the factory colt magazine that came with the gun.this trip all we used were Wilson 47d's and act mags.there were no malfunctions in nearly 400 rounds!!
The slide and frame are wearing in nice and slow,I like to run the first 1000 or so rounds with the gun heavily oiled.this has worked well for me in the past on other production guns.it does take longer and cost more but I load my own so the cost is cut way down.this long oily break in period has got the action on my 70 series repro worn buttery smooth!!
I'll keep you posted at the 1000 round mark as well.

New Volkmann Precision Combat Carry 9mm
Picked up this beauty a few days ago and couldn't be more excited! This is my first custom 1911. Funny thing is I'm not the one who ordered it, but I wouldn't have really changed anything except maybe specified a solid medium trigger, ball endmill cuts, and Luke's Gripwell option. No big deal though, I really love the options on this one and the 3 hole trigger looks really nice on this build. I can't wait to get this thing to the range, but that is going to have to wait until the end of the week due to work getting in the damn way! The original owner never fired this gun because he said it was too pretty. I almost agree with him; almost. I'm gonna shoot the crap out of this thing though! It is extremely tight and pretty dry. Gonna add some Wilson Combat lite oil to it and put some 147 grain through it to break it in. I field stripped it because I just had to see the internals and I was pretty happy. There aren't really any tool marks to be seen and everything looks very well polished and clean. I love the way Luke does the flattening of the slide stop pin as well. There are cool little options and details all over this build like the barrel hood flutes, monogrammed bushing/plug (love this option), and the VP logo in just the right places (in my opinion). The blueing looks outstanding and the CCH has always been an awesome look to me. I also like the nitre blue grip screws; cool little touch. I contacted Luke to get more info regarding the blueing and he said he does his own blueing on the slide. This one has the mirror polish. The CCH is obviously done by Turnbull. I know these finishes will show wear and I'm completely ok with that as long as I'm the one doing the wearing! Alright on with the pics! Let me know what you guys think.
Sorry this pic is a bit blurry. I love this gold bead though; it pops pretty well!
