In depth:
1. The “Strong Side” grip contour is designed to guide the shooter’s trigger finger (and the hand that is attached to it) to correct, sure, and rapid positioning on the grip of the 1911 during deholstering, and assure consistent optimal (high) hand placement on the grip during shooting. There is only one optimal location on the 1911 grip frame for the shooting hand……. “optimal” being: “just as high on the grip frame as possible”, with the area or the back of the hand between the thumb and shooting finger even pressing against the underneath side of the beavertail.

2. The shooting hand’s thumb, of many 1911 shooters, cannot reach and manipulate the magazine release of the full-size 1911, without repositioning the hand so the thumb can reach the mag release. Try it with your own 1911 with your current grip panels! Simulate a normal shooting grip – do not move your hand, move your thumb only and activate the magazine release. If you happen to be blessed with really large hands or a really long thumb, it is possible. But if your hand size is in the Small to Medium-Large range, you probably just found that you can’t do it. Now, we’re going to have a quick “heart to heart” with you, fellow 1911 owner. First, if you only use your 1911 for target shooting and collecting purposes – this revelation is not that important. However, if you use your 1911 for carry or home defense, and you can access extra magazines, this is important. When my 1911 serves in a concealed carry role, it is loaded with 8+1 and I do carry a couple spare magazines……… If ever an event happens, when I must utilize my 1911 to handle some problem………and if the situation requires me to deploy a second or even a third magazine of ammunition – I’m going to assume that this is probably a situation that is a little tough…..and tense……lots of adrenalin and a lot going on. And ANY necessity for me to loosen my grip on my 1911, so I can reposition my hand to accomplish a mag change, would not be optimal, and would NOT be a tactical advantage of any kind. Scores of owners of high end “tactical” 1911 pistols, could not accomplish a mag change without loosening the grip of the shooting hand on the grip frame – BHSpringSolutions Tactical 1911 Masters Grips eliminate this deficiency for a majority of 1911 shooters (except for those with the very smallest hands).
